- Type of GMO: Maruca resistant Cowpea (Bt. Cowpea)
- Type of activity: Confined Field Trial (CFT)
- Permit holder: Savanah Agricultural Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-SARI)
- Location: Nyamkpala, Damongo and Manga in the Northern Region, Ghana.
- Start Date: November, 2012
- Renewal date: February, 2016 and August, 2019
- Principal Investigator: Dr. Abdulai Mumuni
Comment: The Maruca insect has been a menace of cowpea farmers over the years. The insect destroys the leaves and also attack the stem, depriving the plant of maximum yield. The GMO cowpea has been engineered with a gene from Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt) which gives it the natural ability to resist the attack of the insect.

- Type of GMO: Nitrogen Use, Water Efficient and Salt Tolerant Rice (NEWEST Rice)
- Type of activity: Confined Field Trial (CFT)
- Permit holder: Crops Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-CRI)
- Location: Fumesua, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Ghana.
- Start Date: November, 2012
- Renewal date: February, 2016 and August, 2019
- Principal Investigator: Dr. Maxwell Asante
Comment: The NEWEST Rice is engineered to grow in areas with low nitrogen concentration, uplands (where the water content is low) and soils with high concentration of salt. Trait has made it possible for this type of rice to grow in areas where the rice would normally not survive.
