On February 18, 2022, the National Biosafety Authority (NBA) published a notice in the Government Gazette No. 24 of 2022 concerning an application for environmental release and placing on the market of Pod Borer Resistant Cowpea in Ghana submitted by the Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI). The NBA allowed a 60-day period for public comments to be considered in the approval decision on the application. In addition, the same application was published in two National Dailies (Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times) and on the NBA website.
The NBA thus invited and received comments bearing over 2000 signatures in response. The document below is a summary of the comments received by the Authority for public information.
